Ebony

Botanical Name:
Diospyros spp.
Other Names:
Madagascar, Gabon, Ceylon, or African ebony.
Natural
Characteristics:
Very dense wood, coarse texture, dark interlocking grain.
Color:
Dark black with dark grain.
Workability:
Fair
Very dense and difficult to cut. Keep tools sharp. Dulls blades rapidly.

Excellent
Uses:
Veneers, inlay, pool cues, turnings.
Known Toxicity:
Sawdust can cause respiratory problems.
Comments:
Very rare.
The darkest ebony comes from Africa and unlike Macassar Ebony, generally dark black.
Price: Very Expensive.
